Starting a Bucket Club

GATHER

Start by reaching out to fun, enthusiastic women! You don’t want to be constantly cajoling anyone to participate. If they don’t seem to “get it” or come up with lots of reasons why it’s not for them…believe them! This idea is not for everyone. Your group will be lots more fun if everyone is on the same page.

START DISCUSSING BUCKET LIST IDEAS

You can come up with a number (maybe 20?) of bucket list ideas before each meeting and read them out one at a time to talk about. Have each person jot them down and score them from ZERO to 3. Zero is a never-in-a-million-years idea. For example, for me, sky diving would be a zero! (Even though they can harness you to a nice young man who will make sure to pull the ripcord!)

SHARE

Then everyone shares their score. Did someone say skydiving is definitely going on their list??? Start googling to find a place you can all go together to witness her living out this dream…and take lots of pictures and videos for her! BTW, this may be the one place where phones and googling are not necessarily a bad idea.

Has someone already been a contestant on a game show???? Cool! Tell us all about it! Or, who wants to fly out to LA and try to get on “Let’s Make a Deal” with me? It might not be something on your list, but be sure to listen to who is very excited about it and jot that info in your book. Help them follow up and follow through! You’ll enjoy watching your friends do exciting things, whether or not they’re things you want to do also.

Getting a little off track is a good thing. Maybe you’ll get so caught up in talking about some of these ideas that you only go through a few that evening. If someone mentions the Oscars coming up and you go off on this tangent – fantastic! Do lots of you want to see all the Best Picture nominees before the Oscars? Try to come up with a plan. Maybe someone who has a 60-inch TV can host some viewing parties.

DO

Now it’s time to start doing the items on your list! Hopefully it won’t take long to start checking things off. A trip to Machu Picchu may take a few years to plan, but re-connecting with a grade school friend could happen right away, if you can find them on Facebook! Be sure to take photos and share your adventures with us on Facebook. When you first get started, you may have a list of things you’ve been thinking about for years already on your list. Please share your own bucket list ideas with all of us!

Please send any suggestions, clever ideas or questions your group comes up with through the contact page.

I would love to talk to you one-on-one if you have any questions.

I can’t wait to hear from you!
